Car light sensor appliance (1) controls car travel lights (5). Contained environment light sensor (2) has preset brightness threshold value so that car travel lamps are switched off, when measuring value exceeds threshold value. For measuring value below threshold value, control unit (4) evaluates, in preset time intervals, signal form of forefield light sensor (3), related to presence signal courses for different environmental brightness. In dependence on signal form, amplifying factor of environment sensor is so increased that its measuring values can exceed brightness threshold value.
