The retarder function switching device has two inputs (11, 12), the first connected to the secondary gear wheel (7), and the second to the primary gear wheel (6). Both can be connected via at least one switchable coupling device (20) to an output (13) to form first and second load branches (14, 15). Torque conversion devices are fitted between each input and the output.
