Device for contact measurement of the thickness of sheet material (BN), especially banknotes. The device comprises two rollers (20, 30) mounted rigidly relative to each other. The first roller is comprised, at least partially, of elastic material (33), which is deformed dependent on the thickness of the sheet material being measured. The roller deformation is measured to determine the sheet thickness.
