A device for generating a value (Z2) dependent on a duty cycle of a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal (PS), includes a control arrangement with a first counter (10) to which is supplied the PWM signal (PS) and a clock signal, an oscillator arrangement (30) to which is supplied the frequency control signal (N), and a second counter arrangement to which the PWM signal (PS) and the clock signal (CLK) are supplied and which is designed to provide a second counter value (Z2) which corresponds to the number of periods of the clock signal (CLK) during a given time duration. An independent claim is included for a method for generating a PWM signal depending on a duty cycle.
