A linear or rotating equipment phase signal processing procedure uses the difference (t) between the linear mapping module (M1) matrix transformed phase values (a) and the result of a Quantization operation (V) on the vector after transformation with a further matrix (M4) to give a vector (X) whose component minimum makes the quality level (R) is derived using coefficients (C, D) derived from the phase signal.
