System for producing pharmaceutical (pre)products, especially antibodies, vaccines and proteins, comprises growing cells or microorganisms on a surface, optionally present within one or more porous bodies. The reduction or increase in the surface area available to the cells is reproducibly controlled, either continuously or discontinuously, without further opening of the system.
