A process for producing a composite component, especially a brake disc, comprises placing a reactive material, eg a ceramic powder, in a mould, pressing the powder, sintering, infiltration with a metal melt, and initiating a reaction with the melt. The ceramic powder grain size is controlled so the blank formed has a surface region with a larger specific surface and a core with a smaller specific surface.
