An ignition detector, a flue supply device and a knock detector are provided on the respective cylinders. In the event of a knock being detected in at least one cylinder, a control device changes the supplied quantity of fuel to the individual cylinders. The control device operates the knocking cylinder with a richer fuel mixture, and operates the remaining non-knocking cylinders with a leaner fuel mixture.
