The system has two current carrying bus bars (14) fastened on a structure (12) e.g. ceiling, wall or basement, of an apartment. The bars are coupled to a power source, and a covering device (16) made of e.g. veneer, covers the bars. An illuminator (18) has a low voltage lamp (20) and two magnets to which piercing units are associated. The units pierce the device to contact the bars for supplying power from the bars to the lamp.
