A surface analysis (1) and working (9) procedure compares (6) the measured (4) voltage current relationship for an electrode with defined separation from a work piece in an electrolyte with the required value and uses the comparison to control material removal by voltage pulses. Independent claims are included for equipment using the procedure for finishing machined surfaces.
