The grid is composed of a number of micro-structured diffraction units (12), assembled in a panel (15). They give a two-dimensional diffraction of light rays, through separate bodies on a common surface with gaps between them to act as light scatter centers. The panel surface is covered by the thin-film diffraction elements using lithography.
