The freely-projecting roof awning has at least one rectangular roof panel (1) and at least 2 triangular support brackets (2) secured to a building wall at one end. The upper edge of each support bracket is curved, with a slot corresponding in width to the thickness of the roof panel extending parallel to the curved upper edge from a point close to the wall end of the support bracket, for defining a strut (5) which is secured to the remainder of the support bracket at its front end after insertion of the roof panel, the front end of the support bracket formed as a retaining clip (6) for a rain gutter (7).
