Method for checking joint geometries in which rivet joint is imaged using a CCD camera. The resulting image is divided into individual gray stages (3-8) that have changeover zones (9-14). These zones correspond are characteristic of the joint and are compared with corresponding reference limit lines. Any differences between the two are measured. The resultant geometrical distance measurements provide an objective quality criterion for the joint.
