Ink cartridge container for supplying the inking system of a printing machine with ink comprises a tightly closing lid (10) for generating air pressure inside the container to force the ink out of the cartridge, a locking mechanism for locking the lid in the closed position, and a valve for controlling the supply and removal of air to/from the interior of the container. A pivot drive (30 42, 52) for automatically opening and closing the lid is designed so that in a first movement phase the lid is brought into the closed position and in a second movement phase the lid is locked and the air valve is activated. When the lid is opened the process is reversed.
