An automated ink supply system for a printing press has ink cartridges (28) in a revolver magazine at one side of the press and with a pressurised dispensing holder (16) for single cartridges. The holder ejects the ink via pneumatic pressure and spreads into a tray (10) by moving along a guide drive (14) over the tray. The holder has a hinged pressure cover (20) and is loaded and unloaded by a servo drive (30) which transfers cartridges between the magazine and the holder. A warning system alerts the operator when the magazine needs refilling.
