A bows ladder for a boat is pivot mounted by its upper end (9) on the bows railing (2). It is swung down over the bows and is supported in the lowered setting by a folding stay (5) braced on the bows. The ladder is swung up and stored on the forestay (18). The ladder design can also be applied to other positions on the boat, e.g. the stern.
