The invention relates to a power converter circuit arrangement and an associated control method for connecting a three-phase generator to a power network, consisting of a first direct connection of the generator to the power grid and a second connection of the generator (20) to the power grid (90), in which case a Vierquadrantenumrichter such is arranged that this consists of a first power converter, whose three AC voltage connections with the three terminals of the generator, and a second power converter, whose three AC voltage terminals are connected to the mains. The control method for reactive power compensation in the case of a network short circuit is such that in a first period after the short circuit, the grid-side converter delivers reactive power through its AC voltage connections to the grid, in a second period the converter feeds reactive power back into the grid and in a third period the entire four-quadrant converter controls the gentle restart without mains load with reactive power of the generator.
