Use of specific promoters for expressing genes in Tagetes, useful for preparing biosynthetic products, specifically carotenoids, for use as e.g. pharmaceuticals, also the genetically modified plants

Use of an EPSPS (5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase), B-gene, PDS (phytoene desaturase) or CHRC (chromoplast-associated protein C) promoter (P) for expressing genes in a plant of the family Tagetes, excluding genes that are expressed from these promoters in wild-type Tagetes. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) Tagetesgenetically modified to increase the expression rate of at least one gene, relative to the wild-type, or to cause expression, by using (P) to control the gene; (b) genetically modified Tagetescontaining (P) linked to a gene, other than one that is expressed from (P) in wild-type plants; and (c) preparing biosynthetic products by culturing plants of (1) and (2).
