The device connects a battery terminal to at least one conductor and has a current measurement module with at least one measurement resistance and a measurement circuit that detects the voltage applied to the measurement resistance to determine the current and forwards the measurement data to an evaluation and/or control unit in analog or digital form. The measurement resistance is integrated into the connection device so that both elements are in one piece and the device has two predefined contact points, between which the measurement resistance lies and by which the measurement circuit can be contacted. An independent claim is also included for a method of electrical current measurement in motor vehicles.
