A sensor unit (1) and a control unit (3) are arranged outside the siphon. The sensor unit is arranged on the discharge side (6) of the siphon, above the overflow level (5) of the siphon. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a urinal, gutter or spitting cup with the siphon; (b) a control unit for a siphon; and (c) a method for controlling flushing for a urinal, gutter or spitting cup.
