The inside of the mantle casing (1) has an equilateral triangle- shaped cross-section with three rounded-off elliptical corners (9) which act as combustion chambers (C1-C3). Inside the casing is an eccentrically positioned and elliptical-shaped rotary piston (3) whose elliptical shape has a maximum/minimum diameter ratio of 1:0.866. Three inlets are provided in a front side part and each inlet is congruent with the piston inlet opening to allow fuel to be injected by two alternating piezoceramic injectors per inlet. The cross-flow principle is used to control the inlet channel (E) and outlet channel (A) via the piston. Four sealing strips (5) are secured inside the piston or alternatively preferably three sealing strips are secured inside the casing. A planetary gear system is used to ensure the piston and shaft rotate in different directions and to ensure a precise 1:2 transmission ratio between the piston and shaft (12), the piston rotation direction being i! n either clockwise or anti-clockwise. The sun gear and the eccentric part (11) are integrally joined to the shaft. The piston performs a 4-stroke cycle of 6 work strokes per revolution with the three combustion chambers. The casing and both side parts are screwed together and sealed using a high temperature- resistant ring seal with a round cross-section.
