The projection device comprises a light source unit emitting light with first, second and third colors, e.g. red, green and blue (P1,P2,P3). First, second and third picture modules (6,7,8) produce colored part pictures. A superimposition unit (15) superimposes the colored part pictures, which are projected by a projection optic. The picture modules have a polarization radiation divider (9,10,11) and a reflective light modulator (12,13,14), which produces several independent pixels which can be brought into first and second conditions. The light modulators alter the polarization state of the light reflected in the first condition. The light source unit provides the polarization radiation divider of the first picture module with light of the first color, the polarization radiation divider of the second picture module provides light of the second color and the polarization radiation divider of the third picture module provides light of the third color.
