The stake (6) for supporting wires in vine and fruit growing is made from sheet metal. A section (12) is stamped out and formed into a hook. This is made up of an upwardly sloping inner section (16a), an intermediate curved section (16b) and a top section (16c) which curves in towards the stake. The tip (22) of this is pointed.
