The saddle tank has a pump unit (12) mounted in one fuel chamber (3) and a fuel balancing pipe (5) which connects the two chambers. When air collects in the top (18) of this pipe a valve (10) at the pump end closes and a throttle valve (19) opens so that fuel can be pumped through it to flush out the air.
