The method involves detecting distance of a succeeding vehicle, articles and road users using a park distance-control equipment (4). An intensity of light emission (L) of a light (1) of a motor vehicle e.g. CAN bus, is regulated based on the detected distance. The intensity of light is reduced when the succeeding vehicle is detected to be closer to the motor vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a control device for regulating a motor vehicle light.
