A gravity separator vessel (11) has an internal coalescer unit (20), mounted on the separated-water outlet duct (28, 29), comprising an enclosure surrounded by a filter-screen (21-24), inside which there is a valve closure member (35), for sealing the water outlet (28), attached to a float (33).Surface accumulation of light organic phase causes the float to sink and plug the water outlet.
