An inorganic-modified polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), formed from an organic polymer electrolyte medium in which an inorganic phase (I) is dispersed and having spaced, flat, main anode and cathode surfaces, consists of at least two layers running parallel to the main surfaces, such that the layers on the anode side have a higher (I) content than those on the cathode side.
