Riveting process with quality monitoring has pressure sensors, rivet head movement sensor, and processor, to generate graphic presentation of riveting curve for comparison with data generated during trial riveting
The process uses a piston (1), carrying the rivet head (2), with a lower surface (S2) loaded by hydraulic pressure to move against a rivet (3). Pressure sensors (4,5) record the pressures (P) acting on upper (S1) and lower piston surfaces, and there is a movement sensor (6) to record the movement (e) of the rivet head. A processor (7) to record and process all signals, calculates and gives a graphic presentation of a riveting curve. A riveting trial is carried out, using a certain type of rivet with a recording frequency of more than 1000Hz, and the processor determines the corresponding ideal curve, on which points for control/validation are fixed. During a subsequent operational riveting process, a corresponding curve (8) is calculated and graphically represented, and is compared with the ideal curve. This indicates whether the process has been carried out correctly.
