The riveting die (2) has a shaft (6) to expand one end (12) of a hollow or tubular rivet (10). The shaft has a penetration section (8) extending along its axis (33), which is shaped to completely penetrate the interior (42) of the rivet during a complete riveting stage. The riveting tool has a counter holder (30) acting on the opposite end of the rivet with an aperture (32). The penetration section enters at least partially into the aperture when the tool is operated.
