The gas distribution flow field, for a fuel cell, has flow channels in a serpentine structure with parallel paths. The channel path dividers are in a number of widths to prevent a lateral flow across the channels. The fuel cell has the gas distribution flow field structure on the side of the cathode and/or anode, especially in a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) cell. The fuel cell takes in hydrogen at the cathode side, and air with an inert gas content of 20-70% passes through as the oxygen content, with channels to take off the reaction gas.
