The felt includes a screen-printed membrane layer which leaves behind virtually no traces, when used for dewatering. The membrane is printed in strips, either as spirals or straight lines around the material. The next strip is then printed by axial movement. This avoids any need to bond several strips to the membrane, in order to make up the entire width of the finished felt. The printed membrane layer has a pseudo-continuous grid pattern or random pattern. It includes openings of diverse geometric form and/or variable dimensions and/or variable distribution. In at least one location it is made of a material of differing hardness. The edge layer is differentiated relative to the remainder, in accordance with any of the characteristics described.
