Method for frequency analysis of an input signal (x(t)) and a dependent output signal (y(t)) has the following steps: division of the input signal into a predefined number of frequency bands by application of a Fourier transform to convert the signal to the frequency domain; determination of a dependence between the output signal and frequency band divided input signal and; formation of a information optimized spectral function in frequency space from the determined dependencies for individual frequency bands.
