A detonative cleaning apparatus comprises an elongate combustion conduit (202) extending from an upstream end to a downstream end associated with an aperture in a wall of a vessel and positioned to direct a shock wave toward the surface; and spring hangers (220, 222) for movably supporting the combustion conduit at one or more locations along a length of the combustion conduit. An independent claim is also included for cleaning a surface within a vessel of a piece of industrial equipment comprising introducing fuel and oxidizer to a conduit; and initiating a reaction of the fuel and oxidizer to cause a shock wave to impinge upon the surface a recoil force upon the conduit being resiliently taken up by a resilient component.
