The guide roller, for a conveyor belt, has a center bearing (5) which allows a swing movement of the mantle (6) in two directions (D,E). The center bearing has at least one magnetic brake (15) with at least one permanent magnet (19), to develop a braking force (F1) to resist roller rotation. The magnetic brake has two brake sections, with a gap between them, with the first section (16) coupled to the inner circumference (12) of the center bearing, and the second section (17) coupled to the outer circumference (11) of the center bearing. The braking action is developed by a magnetic flow between the two brake sections.
