The spacer fitted on reinforcing bars forming reinforcing mats is in the form a disc (11) with a central hole (12). A cut (14) runs tangentially to the central hole and starts from the circumference (13) of the disc and from it results a cut edge (141). A bend edge (16) runs tangentially to the central hole in the disc and parallel to the cut. The disc segment (112) bounded between the cut edge and bend edge can be bent out by a limited amount from the plane of the disc for the fitting of the disc on a reinforcing bar.
