The compactor includes a device (40) for determining the degree of compaction while the ground is being compacted. A sensor (42) attached to a baseplate of the compactor detects the acceleration of the baseplate. Circuitry processes the sensor output, and displays it on an indicator comprising at least three light-emitting elements.
