A storage vessel (22) for a high viscosity paste (24) has at least one outlet opening (34) in one end which can be placed in communication with at least one dosing chamber (18). A transport device (12) moves the dosing chambers backwards and forwards between a filling position in communication with the storage vessel and a discharge position in which the paste is transferred to a web. A first pressure-generating device connected to the storage vessel ensures a dosed quantity of paste is transferred to the dosing chamber. A second pressure-generating device (59) is used to exert a pressure on the paste in the dosing chamber so that it is transferred to the web when the chamber is in the discharge position. The transport device comprises a disc rotated about its central axis and containing dosing chambers around its periphery. The second pressure-generating device is a punch.
