A method for constructing a watertight basin on site using a concrete mix containing alkaline resistant organic and inorganic fibres has the fibres and the reinforcing structure built up into a mould by layering prior to applying the concrete mixture. For large basins, e.g. pools and ponds, the mould is layered directly into the excavated hole. The outer layers can be of thermally insulating material and the reinforcing is embedded into the layers. The upper part of the reinforcing can be a ring shaped insert to provide tensile strength to the basin.
