The screw has a head (2), an essentially cylindrical shaft (4,6,8), a tip and a thread (14) extending over the shaft into the tip area (10) with edges (18,20) on the tip and head sides, whereby the tip edge angle is greater than the head edge angle. The tip edge angle is about the same in the shaft and tip areas but the head edge angle is greater in the tip area than in the shaft area. An independent claim is also included for a wood screw.
