A method for assembling a plastic bicycle wheel, especially with carbon fibre reinforcing, has a modular design with separate rim segments (11) with interlocking plug and socket ends (12, 13) and with a tapering cross section. The interlocking ends are coated with adhesive and the segments are assembled and pressed together on an assembly jig. The wheel is further held together by a one piece outer wheel rim (15) of either light alloy or carbon fibre reinforced plastic.
