The braided material, for use in furniture and insulation applications and the like, is composed of stiff plastics strips (1) of a clear, translucent or opaque materials. At the intersection points with other strips (4), at right angles, they are shaped by heat pressing into structures (2,3) which accommodate them on both sides at the intersecting sections (6). The right-angled strips are also shaped (7-9) by heat pressing to give a matching fit at their intersections.
