The device for the breaking down of material has at least one grinding rotor (2) which has cutting discs (4) installed on a driven shaft (3) and axially pressed together by a tensioning device (11). The tensioning device has a ring supported on the driven rotor and provided with several tensioning elements which have elastic contact heads pressing in the axial direction against the grinding rotor. A contact head is provided for each tensioning element and comprises a packet of disc springs.
