The worm gear has a wormwheel (18) and a worm (16) meshing with it. At least one additional worm (22) meshing with the wormwheel is in mechanical and/or form locking drive communication with the main worm, whereby gearwheels (30,32), toothed belts, chains or some other form-locking means of transmission interconnect the two wormwheels. The additional worm is offset in relation to the main worm by 90 degrees. An independent claim is included for a drive unit with the proposed worm gear, with a drive motor (2) connected to the main worm.
