The device has a piston (10) and cylinder (9), that are fixed on a lifting unit and body, respectively. The piston divides the cylinder into upper and lower chambers (17, 18) that are coupled by a flow-path having a check valve (20). The piston is movable and immovable in upward/downward direction, when the valve is in open and close positions, respectively. A sliding unit is movable by an articulated lever to raise a vehicle roof.
