The pipe connector (1) for the releasable holding of the end (2) of a pipe which has a smooth surface (2') has a sleeve (4) which has at least one encompassing bead (6) with a sealing element (8) and encompassing sleeve ring (10). A claw component (12) provides axial retention of the pipe end and has a claw ring with at least one radially inwards extending claw (14) and fits directly on the sleeve ring and/or bead. The free end (16) of the claw is constructed in such a way, and especially with such hardness and/or shape, that it sinks into the smooth surface of the pipe end with positive locking. An independent claim is included for a combination including a release tool in the form of a single or multi-section sleeve, the cross section of which tapers towards the end.
