Method for handling newly illustrated print formes or print forme cylinders in print machines, wherein the surface of the print forme (12) and or the print forme cylinder is hydrophilic and a beam printer is used to produce a hydrophobic illustration layer on the surface. According to the method the print forme surface area on which a motif (13, 14) is to be placed is calculated and the illustration layer is only applied to this area plus a minimum border region.
