A method for manufacturing an electric double-layer capacitor having a low resistance and a large capacitance of more than 10 F, causing little self-discharging, not degrading in capacitance with time, and hardly undergoing deformation of its cell. The body of the capacitor is so constructed that an anode mainly made of a carbonaceous material having a specific surface of more than 500 m2/g and a cathode are opposed with a separator interposed therebetween. The body is impregnated with a nonaqueous electrolyte. A voltage 1 to 1.5 times the rated voltage is applied in an unsealed state. The body is kept under a low pressure and the case containing the body is sealed, solving the problems.
