The belt conveyor has an upstream (2) and a downstream (3) conveyor with bands or chains, where the conveyors are situated one behind another. The upstream conveyor has more significant length than the conveyor (3) to provide sufficient mass to permit the downstream conveyor to be off-centered with respect to a support at bottom of the belt conveyor. The speed of the conveyor (2) is lower than the conveyor (3). A hopper for guiding material is provided between the conveyors.
