The process involves connecting a ventilating duct (10) to a suction pipeline (5) of an internal combustion engine. A pressure difference between a pressure in the suction pipeline/an ambient pressure and a pressure in the ventilating duct is determined. A fault in the ventilation of a container or a crankcase is diagnosed, based on the pressure difference, by a diagnostic unit. An independent claim is also included for a device of managing an internal combustion engine.
