The fabrication of a metal alloy wire having a high mechanical strength and a low coefficient of thermal dilation consists of: (a) hot rolling an alloy of given chemical composition to obtain a machine wire that could possibly be pickled; (b) shaping the machine wire by cold plastic deformation, in one or several passes, with or without intermediate annealing operations; (c) annealing the shaped wire; and (d) submitting it to an ageing treatment and optionally a final drawing operation. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a metal alloy wire obtained by the method; and (b) an electric cable for a high voltage line incorporating the metal wire.
